Wikipedia Leadership?

Wikipedia leadership? Well, in a way, yes. In our never-ending search for "all things leadership" on the world wide web, we accidentally came upon a link to Wikipedia, the "mostly correct," always exciting and never boring encyclopedia that YOU CAN EDIT. We found a tremendous amount of leadership material at the site and chose to provide you with a small section called "Leadership Quotes." The entire section of leadership quotes are categorized by topic.

We picked "Techniques and Style" to get a flavor and one of my favorites is by George S. Patton: Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results.

Under "Leadership, Techniques and Style:"

?  In matters of style, swim with the current; In matters of principle, stand like a rock. ~ Thomas Jefferson
?  If it's a good idea, go ahead and do it. It is much easier to apologize than it is to get permission. ~ Admiral Grace Hopper
?  The key to successful leadership today is influence, not authority. ~ Kenneth Blanchard
?  If you're not confused, you're not paying attention. ~ Tom Peters
?  Lead, follow or get out of the way. ~ General Douglas McArthur

You can find more quotes at Wikipedia by clicking here and selecting your choice of Leadership Quotes.

Your most important leadership tool is your integity: We will forget and forgive any judgment error that you make, but integrity mistakes are forever. How can you earn people's trust and protect your most important leadership tool?

1. Keep your promises.
2. Speak out for what you think is important.
3. Err on the side of fairness.
4. Do what you say you are going to do.

?  The manager asks how and when; the leader asks what and why?
?  The manager has an eye always on the bottom line; the leader has an eye on the horizon.
?  The manger initiates; the leader originates.
?  The manager accepts the status quo; the leader challenges it.
?  The manager is the classic good soldier; the leader is her/his own person.
?  The manager does things right; the leader does the right thing.

Tom Peters says: "We hope you'll use this resource. And we mean that. Take them. Use them. Send them to friends. Spread them around. Have your way with them. Please! These slides are in PowerPoint. If you don't have PowerPoint, you can download the free PowerPoint Viewer."

For instance, the first set of Powerpoint slides is called Guerilla Advantage and includes such gems as:

?  Active mutators in placid times tend to die off. They are selected against. Reluctant mutators in quickly changing times are also selected against. ~ Carl Sagan & Ann Druyan, Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors and
?  The most successful people are those who are good at plan B.
~ James Yorke, mathematician, on chaos theory in The New Scientist.
