Organizations should give themselves a quick "test" on who is responsible for what. List a series of management, production and policy responsibilities in the left hand column. Place a second column, headed "Board" next to the responsibilities column and a third column, headed "Executive Director," next to the second. Ask board members, volunteers, and clients to put check marks in the appropriate columns next to each task. Compare the responses. Unless your organization is unique, there will probably be discrepancies among those polled as to who does what.
