It is not surprising that an organization that is bent on delivering service to an overwhelmed population will sometimes ignore the forest for the trees that is, be so concentrated on righting the wrong, that it forgets that it also needs to make contacts, become part of the network, understand the politics of power, support other organizations, etc. Organizations that attempt to make it alone often find themselves alone in a time of need. Since small to mid-sized organizations, especially new ones, find it difficult to survive as "islands," it is important to become part of the network for practical as well as political reasons.
