Your Organizational Assessment Feedback:

Mission:

You either skipped this section or you checked Yes fewer than three times. Your organization may be in trouble. A thoughtful look at the mission should go to the top of your list for immediate action. You should complete your analysis of all of the categories before attempting to work on the mission since the cause of this problem could be found in other areas of the organization.

Ethics and Accountability:

You either skipped this section or you checked Yes fewer than three times. Your organization may need an assessment conducted by an outside organization to make certain you are in compliance with the expectations set forth in the law and the expectations of society. If organizations behave in ethical ways and are accountable, less time and effort are spent questioning the organization's motives and actions.

External Environment:

You either skipped this section or you checked Yes fewer than three times. Your organization may need to develop a strategy for interfacing with its environment or if a strategy exists, to assess the effectiveness or use of this strategy.

Strategic Planning and Management:

You either skipped this section or you checked Yes fewer than three times. If the organization has a strategic plan, serious consideration should be given to the strategic management process. It is possible that the plan is not being actively managed.

Organizational Structure:

You either skipped this section or you checked Yes fewer than three times. Your organization may have both philosophy and process to clarify. When there is a disconnect between the structure and the mission that the structure is supposed to support, it can cause confusion through the organization and the outside areas that are touched by the organization.

Leadership and Management:

You either skipped this section or you checked Yes fewer than three times. Your organization may have a difficult time reaching success in both new and existing programs. Without effective leadership, whether at the policy or operational level, your organization will not successfully complete programs. Staff will not produce up to their potential when no inspirational, effective, or knowledgeable leader is at the helm.

Human Resources Management:

You either skipped this section or you checked Yes fewer than three times. You may want to seek assistance from outside your organization to develop a human resource development system, at a minimum. Your organization may also want assistance in other aspects of the human resource function, as development is but one to be considered.

Internal and External Communications:

You either skipped this section or you checked Yes fewer than three times. A communications audit may be called for. When communication is unclear, the organization loses opportunities, does not behave or respond in a timely fashion, and cannot prevent or settle conflicts. It will take some commitment from the organization because the longer effective communication does not occur, the more difficult it is to get it going again. If the organization is at this level of ineffective communication, technical assistance from outside the organization may be the most effective strategy.

Financial Management:

You either skipped this section or you checked Yes fewer than three times. Your organization may not be providing the financial management that is required. Fewer than three yes responses may indicate that there are basic financial management concerns within the organization. Seek resources that can assist the organization with financial analysis and strategic plan development.

Evaluation and Performance Management:

You either skipped this section or you checked Yes fewer than three times. You may need to seek input from an outside resource to establish a total performance management system for your organization.

Information Technology:

You either skipped this section or you checked Yes fewer than three times. If you have not moved across the "digital divide," your organization may not yet be in the position to make the investment into the systems that will speed your ability to send the right information to the right people or to help in the decision making process. If this is the case, your organization may need to include this critical success factor into your overall strategy for managing an effective organization.

Thank you!
